DAF Chassis Cab

This workshop resin flooring installation project for DAF Chassis Cab was completed successfully by Donnelly Flooring. The work was part of an expansion project that included building a new workshop in an existing building. The floor of the new workshop was in need of a new resin floor surface to update an existing floor that was worn and damaged in several areas.

This project included two inspection pits and two servicing hoists. New lane markings were also needed to bring them in line with current DVSA requirements in key areas around the inspection pit, vehicle hoists, and walkways. An important consideration of this project was overall safety at the facility, so an anti-slip surface was also applied.

Resin flooring refurbishment – before

The existing flooring surface at this site was in need of refurbishment and repair, as in some areas there was damage to the concrete floor.

The areas around the inspection pits required resurfacing and new lane markings to ensure there was compliance DVSA requirements, and to ensure the surface would meet with HSE slip test recommendations to help improve safety at the site.

Preparation work for epoxy resin flooring

Good preparation is an essential part of the refurbishment process. The process starts by cleaning the floor and removing all unwanted material such as dirt and grime, the old paintwork paint and oil stains.

In this case we used a “Diamond Grinding” process to remove the material and also to help key the concrete surface ready for the next stage.

Epoxy resin flooring – application of the top coat

Once the preparation is complete, the primer layer is added and concrete repairs made we start the final part of the process applying the resin flooring top coat. As there was a large area for this project, we apply the top coat and markings in stages.

The areas under the service lifts are laid in a darker resin coating. After adding the top coat base and various colours, we then mark up and apply the demarcation lines for walkways and inspection pits.

In addition we provide advice on floor maintenance, including which solutions to use and how best to keep the floor in top condition.

The finished surface is clean and there is a clear demarcation between the walkways and the workshop areas. As safety was also a concern at the start of the project, we applied an anti-slip coating to help reduce the risk of slips and trips. This helps contribute to an improvement of safety at this site.
